General:
Full name: Roquefort Marie Poussey; a French name and one with a bit of a joke behind it. His parents? Jack and Colby. His sister--now passed--Brie. Roque got the short end of the stick.
Nicknames: Roque makes a nice nickname, and he has never gone by anything different.
Age: The man is nearing his thirtieth birthday, and feeling as though he should be nearing his fortieth. He's always been a bit mature--at least, he believes so.
Gender: Roque considered himself male without any gender dysphoria for years; but lately he's considered that quite possibly he is wrong. He doesn't make a fuss of it though, not being in any discomfort with his body or being referred to as male, and just sometimes quietly thinks on it.
Profession: Roque's always tended towards the domestics, and currently is a cook and a member of the resistance.
Background:
Social standing: Middle Class.
Family: Roque's family now consists only of his father, Jack Poussey--a man in his mid fifties who had begun to estrange himself from his son, intentionally or not, from the time Roque was in diapers; and his sister. Jack was a brusque, sexist man; and Roque was often frightened by his harsh, oft mocking words. These days, Roque doesn't speak to him unless out of dire necessity. Roque's mother died years ago, sick and unwell, and Roque's sister, Brie, began to live with him. The two are quite close, and always had been. She is his senior by five years.
Past: As a child, Roque was quiet, eager to please and a follower; one who'd always obey his mama or big sister, and was frightened of ever showing assertion. Throughout a childhood of financial privilege; they were definitely middle class and much better off than the majority, Roque dealt with the brunt of his father's bullying personality from a young age, being told that cooking, cleaning, was 'woman's' work, and he was pressured throughout his life to adopt a superior outlook, and to mold into his father's image of what 'masculine' truly meant. Though, in the end, not much took hold--he was happily a domestic man and quite dismissive of his father, it would be a lie to say that his words hadn't effected Roque at all. He does, though perhaps not consciously, view himself as superior in many ways towards women, with a distaste in his eyes whenever it comes down to an interaction. He's noted this as he's grown up, and actively worked against it, especially thanks due to his sister, who he admires more than anyone, but it's not gone. For a few years, when he was a young adult just out of school, Roque was in a committed relationship with a man--a 'dangerous' man, part of the resistance at least until he got himself killed, and Roque found himself in the group himself as a result. Though he did, in the end, support their views, had he not been rather dragged into it; it's unlikely he would have found the group on his own. He is not a fiercely political man. Throughout his relationship, before his boyfriend's death, Roque was abused emotionally and, near the end, physically; he was infatuated and made senseless, useless sacrifices to a man who really didn't care for him. He was naive and in love, and incredibly stubborn--but eventually, with the man's death, and his sister to fall back on for support, he got through, becoming a stronger and hardened man in the process. He still loves the man, and is still often mentally plagued with memories, depression and fear, remnants of that relationship, but he's recovering, and he's putting his strength to good use.
Personality:
Passions:
- Cooking has been a passion of Roque's his entire life, in all its forms. He constantly is learning from it, enjoying it, and takes great pride in it.
- Romance--it's always been a motivator in his life. Currently, not so much; he's almost frightened of it, but he's got a romantic heart.
- Survival. Though at one point, Roque could be described as a man who just lives because it's the expected thing to do, with no vigor in life and no vested interest--that's all changed of late. He will fight to survive, and fight hard; because his life means quite a deal to him.
- Homemaking. Perhaps this seems a bit mundane; but for Roque--having a home, and a family, and being the one to keep it running smoothly, by himself or with a partner, that's not just contentment for him, that's pure happiness. It's his dream to have that kind of life. Peaceful and real.
Dislikes:
- Rudeness--he's a courteous man, although often quiet and often quite antisocial, an introvert certainly, but he's courteous and he expects respect. He has no time for rudeness.
- Unnecessary mess--he's also quite a tidy and organized man. Needless mess is quite irksome.
- Lots of cacophonic noise; though not particularly shy or anxious, he is an introvert and one who finds noise to be among the most painful qualities of life. He's definitely frightened by sudden noises, as well, but in general lots of noise will give him a headache, and prompt him into irritability.
- Huge crowds; he isn't fond of most people, and while he'll be friendly enough, trying to make his way through a dense mob isn't the same as expertly weaving through a dinner party.
- Children--this is a bit more complicated. Roque doesn't hate children; and in fact, he rather likes some, but overall he doesn't understand them, and his nature, which is socially adept to be businesslike and polite, often doesn't work around kids. He often feels completely out of his depth.
Relationships: Roque is close to his sister, and they're each other's confidants and good friends. He's estranged from his father, and holds no familial love for him. He's single, currently, still recovering from an abusive relationship that ended with the death of his boyfriend; so it's a bit of an unfortunate situation. He's lonely, but isn't exactly trying to jump right into a new romantic relationship.
Fears: Roque is afraid of many things. Physical harm; Death; Pain--though he can endure that for a time, he's not the bravest man. He's prone to extreme anxiety when confronted with intimidation, and any kind of threatening behavior.
Talents:
- Cooking, in any way shape or form.
- Getting his way, mediating, peacekeeping and making sacrifices to keep that peace.
- Thinking his way through situations--he can be quite underestimated, as far as intelligence goes.
- Being stealthy, hiding and moving quietly without detection.
- Communication--he's got skill with language and codes, ciphers, et cetera. He also speaks French.
Weaknesses:
- Physically weak--though Roque's been getting stronger, more hardy, he's not naturally gifted in combat nor particularly strong, and can easily be overpowered.
- Emotionally manipulatable--if you want to play with his emotions, you can and it will hurt him and he will do as you ask.
- Sexist--he tends to either underestimate women, or else be terrified of them [if they resemble someone from his past]
- Antisocial--though often capable in social situations, he can be quite out of place, awkward and anxious in overly casual settings.
Appearance:
Height and build: Roque stands roughly 5'10'', with sloped shoulders, long arms and a small paunch. He's not too skinny, but possesses more soft fat around his limbs and body than muscle, and doesn't seem that physically intimidating.
Skin: Roque is fair-skinned, Caucasian with lots of orange freckles over his nose, lips and all over his shoulders and back.
Hair: Roque has ginger hair, naturally, a pleasant orange--that he hates; and it's dyed a dark brown. He's kept it in an undercut, buzzed on the sides, longer on the top--wider than a mohawk and often combed back carefully.
Fashion style and accessories: Roque tends to wear button up shirts and slacks; he tries to dress so as little skin as possible shows, but he's got to make do with what he's got. He wears a pendant under his shirt, and has some tattoos on his upper arms--almost always hidden.
Special features:
Power: (only for the Evolved)
Brief description: Roque has got a photographic memory; capable of seeing a scene or hearing a conversation, and then replaying it back at any time he deems necessary.
Advantages: His power is very subtle, hard to detect and he's managed to evade government because of it. It gives him the ability to think quickly and often catch people in lies, or recall instructions perfectly. He never needs a recipe after the first time he's read one, meaning he pretty much never has to buy books.
Disadvantages: He cannot recall anything photographically from before his seventeenth year, when it started to manifest. The most unfortunate setback is the way it will often give him flashbacks, extremely vivid ones, if something triggers him, reminds him of a part of his past that was important in his life. Sometimes, this will just be a pleasant memory, but more often, it will be a flashback to himself being hurt by his boyfriend.
Amount of control the character has on a scale from 1 to 10: Generally, around an 8.
