Ariel grew up in the Middle Ring, and from the moment she was old enough to form her own opinions, it was clear she didn’t share the view of the rest of her family. She didn’t agree with a lot of things, but most of all she didn’t agree with how the government handled things- she thought they were way too controlling. Not unreasonably, this was something that worried her parents. Though they might be a little naïve, they knew what happened to people that publicly disagreed with the government’s actions. Ariel was smart enough to keep her mouth shut when she was around other people, but despite her parents’ hopes, her feelings didn’t change. She found the government too restricting, and the older she got, the more suffocated she felt.
It was when her father got sick of her complaints and had sent her out on an errand, that she first saw the nomads when they were on a quick visit to trade with some of the merchants. With the tension between her and her family growing, her plan to join the nomads first took form. Since she wasn’t sure when they’d be back, and there was very little information on how the wastelands actually looked, she started packing her bags and checked the merchant stands every day so she could join them as soon as the opportunity arose. The day they returned, she grabbed her bags and left without thinking twice about it.

Brief description: Cough inducement. Basically she can get people to cough by just thinking about it. It can be anything from making someone feel like clearing their throat, to someone having a coughing fit that lasts for five minutes.
Advantages: It’s probably the power that’s the easiest to hide of all. Besides, people tend to get a little distracted and short of breath when they’re coughing. You can imagine why that would be useful.
Disadvantages: It’s not very powerful or flashy, and she can’t keep it up forever.
