Rayne makes her way to her shop early in the morning. Honestly, why does she make her hours this early. She owns the place so she could make them later, but that would also means staying up later to finish some of the appointments. Despite hating early mornings, Rayne decides she wont be changing her hours any time soon.
Unlocking the door, Rayne checks around the make sure everything is in order and where it was left before she turns on the lights and sets everything up before she goes to the front door and unlocks it so others can get in if they have an appointment or see if there is an opening. Being this early though, not many wake up for this time so Rayne sits down in the chair, props her feet up and opens her newest book. A book on reptiles to be specific and if one wanted to be exact, it would be on snakes. Beautiful and deadly at the same time.

It was a bit of a dreary morning, but Niodin often was the human personification of dreary weather; introverted, very serious and sometimes a bit gloomy, although he didn't like self-pity. The resistance's pretty boy just wasn't one for small talk. Today the simple tattoo on his lower back was going to get company. Niodin liked his tattoos simple. He wasn't the sort to get many, only when he wanted something to be with him forever. His appointment was early, the way he liked it. Being a guard meant getting up early, so he was used to it.
He opened the door to the parlor and saw that only one artist was there at the moment. Odd, but she was the one he had an appointment with, so he didn't really care how she ran her business. From the first time he'd walked in here he'd politely but decidedly made it clear he had not been looking for help with a design or any advice; he had a small symbol he needed tattooed between his shoulderblades and that was that. He knew what it meant and as far as he was concerned that was enough. It was this attitude that also made appointments with hairdressers rather awkward. "Morning," he greeted the woman, politely, but without a smile. "I have an appointment at nine thirty."

Rayne didn't like a crowded shop which was why she was the only one here right now. Maybe two others came through out the day to work here, but they didn't stay the whole time. They came when they had appointments to keep, otherwise Rayne did the walk in's if she didn't have someone she was working on. She could also call someone in if she truly needed to. Hearing her shop door open, she looks up at the man walking in and recognizes him as her appointment. Closing her book, she stands and places it under the counter when she gets there. When someone comes to get a tattoo and they are sure of what they want, Rayne wont try and change their minds, usually only when she knows that something would work better. Like instead of doing a watercolor type tattoo that's small and wouldn't work well later on, do more of a open patch shade. Makes more sense when you see if done. Giving the man a slight nod she also greets him back. "Morning. You are the one with the back tattoo correct?" She asks as she reaches under the counter for her binder, already going through it to his page so she can grab out the stencil that she will put on his back before inking him. She wants to make sure its exactly what he wanted, she likes happy customers. Means they come back. Tags- Niodin Evans

"That is correct indeed," Niodin confirmed. The woman went through some kind of binder. In the meantime, he let his eyes wander through the shop. It was unlike most shops and in that it was exactly like most shops in the outer circle. Poverty led people to being creative. Where stores and shops in the middle ring tended to be surprisingly similar, outer ring ones were often a lot more diverse. The outer ring really was something of a melting pot. He slipped out of the thin, dark jacket he'd been wearing. In the wastes the nights were cold and so the mornings were often chilly as well. Underneath he wore a black t-shirt. Niodin wasn't one for fashion. If it did what it needed to do and fit comfortably, it was good enough. He hung the jacket up on a coat rack and then walked back over to Rayne, figuring she'd likely be ready right about now. Rayne Blake

As soon as he agrees to what she said about him having the back tattoo, she pulls out the drawing to show him, laying it on the counter. "This is what you wanted. Let me know if we are good to start." Putting the binder back under the counter she waits for approval or denial. Rayne liked to think that her shop was different from the others, holding a lot of books in one corner up front so people waiting can read or they can look through a good full binder of tattoo ideas that she drew or others did. The walls were covered in tattoos and drawings as well, though they were pictures of ones done here, by herself or the other workers or just art she liked. Rayne also dressed for comfort rather than style, then again why dress for style out here? Plus with style you need to be careful if they got dirty and all that. Comfort is so much better. Dark jeans and a white tank top with her usual leather jacket and combat boots, perfect for her. Though the color of the tank top didn't matter to her much, they just worked. tags- Niodin Evans

Rayne had placed a stencil on the counter and Niodin picked it up, critically examining it. It was something of a symbol, a bit angular and just big enough for the amount of detail, but small enough to fit snugly between his shoulder blades without being too dramatic. He then gave the stencil back and nodded. "Looks good, let's do it," he said. He walked over to one of the three reclining tattoo chairs in the shop, on of which the back was all the way down, since it likely worked best if he laid down for this down. He was quite glad the other two were empty. The last time he got a tattoo done, the one on his lower back, the girl that got hers done next to him had taken annoying to a whole new level, by flirting with the artist in a way that made him feel more second hand embarrassment than any human being should ever feel in their lives. He sat down on the chair and took off his shirt, familiar with the procedure. While Niodin did not have the build to become a human brick wall, he was still toned from years of relentless training. You could blame the government for quite a few things, but letting their guards, cops and soldiers grow lazy was not one of them. He laid down on his stomach, folding his arms underneath his head. She waits as Niodin looks over the sketch carefully. Honestly she wouldn't have it any other way. Being careful about what you want, one should check to make sure it is perfect to what you wanted and that the artist didn't mess with it when before. She has seen that happen and did have to fire someone for it once, since it happened more often than anyone realized. When he states that it looks good, she nods and opens up the gate to let him through, letting him go to the chair to recline on. He knows what he is doing so she doesn't need to tell him. Rayne isn't one to just start up a random conversation, if the client wants on, she wont say no. As he took his shirt off and sat down, Rayne gathered all the ink and tools she will need before sitting on his right side, pulling a small table with her. Once everything is set, she cleans the spot the tattoo is going before placing the paper on it, making the design show on his back so she isn't free handing it. "I'm going to start. Let me know if you need a break." She tells him, but figures he wont need one, its just something she tells every client. Dipping the needle into the ink, Rayne places it on his back and begins. Niodin patiently waited as she got everything ready. It didn't matter if she took her time. If anything he preferred that over a rushed job. And, if he was entirely honest, to him this was probably the equivalent of what a day at the spa was for most people. The company of someone equally down-to-earth and the fact that he was getting a tattoo done that he'd wanted for quite a while made this morning a lot better than most. Now, most of his mornings consisted of getting up early and getting his ass to work, so it didn't say much, but still. Niodin was relaxed, and that was a good thing that he didn't get to experience too often.
The cleaning product she used felt pleasantly cool on his skin. He felt the paper being applied and then being removed once the image was on his skin. Despite having done this only once before, the sound of the tattoo machine, once it was running, was a familiar one. He was aware that the spot he'd chosen, between the shoulder blades in the middle of his back, was a sensitive one, but being a guard came with plenty of discomfort; he wasn't too worried. Rayne mentioned she was starting, and that he could get a break any time he needed. He nodded. The tattoo was fairly small, so he didn't think a break would be necessary. She started, and he grimaced for a moment, but then his expression relaxed again. Despite the pain, there was also an upcoming feeling of excitement over the fact that it was finally going to be on his skin. Excitement, too, wasn't something he felt very often.
"You get a lot of business in the mornings?" he asked. His eyes wandered over the walls, looking at all the different types of art hanging there. He liked it, the more elaborate pieces, but it wasn't something he wanted on his skin. Tattoos, to him, were mostly about remembrance. Lockets you could lose, wallets could get stolen, but something inked into your skin was there forever.

Rayne knew that this tattoo wouldn't take a long time, even going slow to make sure she didn't have to do things twice. She wasn't going extremely slow like someone who was brand new at tattooing, but slow like she was being thorough and only wanting to do the design once. Besides, why rush it when she didn't have another appointment until later in the day. Rayne glances at him when he speaks, her machine dipping back into the ink anyways so there was no chance of a mistake. "Not during the week. People work or don't want to wake up early." She replies, going back to marking his back with more ink. Not taking her eyes off his back she now asks him a question. "Did you take time off work for this or did you have the day off?"

He nodded slightly. That made sense. For a moment all he heard was the steady sound of the machine. Her question actually made the corners of his mouth twitch briefly. "I have the day off," he said. "Unless they need me, then I no longer have the day off." That was generally as close to a joke as Niodin would get. For a moment he focussed on the feeling of the machine moving across his skin. The pain had become a fairly easy to deal with constant by now. Outside, on the streets, he saw people pass every now and then. Some looked into the shop with some curiosity, others barely even saw it as they moved along. He had no idea what he'd be doing once this was done. It happened so rarely that he had a day to spend that he didn't know what to do with the time. It wasn't yet time to meet up with anyone from the resistance, so in theory he really could relax today. He wasn't sure how to go about that, but the possibility was there, so that was nice. Rayne Blake

"Ah, so you are on call then." Rayne glances at him as she says this while she is wiping his skin to clear it of blood and ink before she dips her machine in the ink once more before going back to tattooing him. This was a fairly simple design and she was actually enjoying this one. Half or more of the tattoos she has to do are usually detail oriented or the boring things like names or hearts. "What will you be doing the rest of your day then? By your words you don't get time off often then?" She's almost done with his tattoo and then she would be free for a time until her next appointment or walk in. tags- Niodin Evans

"Pretty much," he said. On paper it really was a legit day off, but he wasn't really in a position of saying he couldn't come in; you only did that if you were practically dying. He felt the machine being briefly removed from his back and after a few seconds it resumed again. Rayne's next question was one he actually needed to think about for a moment. The first one of the two, that was. "Honestly, no idea," he said neutrally. "I indeed don't get a lot of time off, so on days like these I don't really know what to do with my time." He smiled faintly. Even without his mission, as a person he was prone to being a bit of an alcoholic by default. That sure didn't help. "You expecting a lot of people coming in today?" he then asked. In the Inner or Middle ring a tattoo shop would probably hardly open up during the general person's working hours, but in Outer people were so mixed in everything they did, there wasn't really one schedule that applied to all of them. Some did work 9 to 5, likely enjoying the safety of routine, but plenty worked night shifts, or just part-time if they somehow could afford that. And then of course there were those that didn't work legally at all. Rayne Blake

Rayne listens to his explanation of being on call and having time off, not knowing what to do with himself with no work. A lot of people who come in here are a mix of that, happy for time off or wanting more work, which is understandable. Rayne likes time off, but she also likes tattooing so its kind of both for her. Wiping down his back once more she looks over the tattoo to see if there is any spots she wants to touch up and does find a spot or two. Going back to tattooing his back, Rayne answers his question. "Not today, no. Not many appointments today, but I don't know how many walk in's might come. That's always up in the air." It is true that in the Outer ring, peoples work schedules are all different and leaves time open for them to come in during day hours, but mornings are never really busy for her or the others who work here. 11 and after is usually when people start coming in. He nodded. That made sense. As Rayne continued working on the tattoo, he let his eyes wander again. He didn't take in every piece of art on the wall - there was simply too much of it - but one thing stood out. "That dove sigil," he said, his expression puzzled and his tone almost a little bit alarmed. "When'd you do that one?" It was possible it was the work of one of her colleagues, but the point was probably clear. When he looked back at the piece his eyes had to search for a moment and he almost thought he must've imagined it, but then he found it again. That was a symbol he'd absolutely seen before. Family matters. Rayne Blake

As Rayne explained about how today might be quiet and yet not, depending on how many walk ins came today, she pulled her machine back and wiped at his back, cleaning of ink and blood to see the tattoo. She pauses to look it over for a moment before cleaning his back once more and going to finish one more spot, then its done. So engrossed with the last part of his tattoo she didn't understand the question for a moment, though she answers him, she doesn't look up from his back. "Hmm?" Her voice is distracted for a moment before understand his question. "Oh the dove. I did that one a while ago. Why?" Done with his back now, she wipes it clean but doesn't cover it yet. "Before you answer, do you want to take a look before I cover it up?" Rayne asks him while getting a new toweling and spray that will keep it from becoming infected and heal better while also gathering the covering and tape to hold it on his back. tags- Niodin Evans
